Truth in who it Targets

Vero — meaning Truth in Latin is a new social media platform. Created in 2015, it was meant to be different in the way that users shared their life. It promised ad free space, privacy and options on who you share your content with when you post.

So why is this something they promised? Who were they targeting with these promises?

When you look into a few stats, you can see that the Gen Z population might be one of their biggest target markets. With a growing population, estimated to make up 25% of the population by 2020, they will start to have a larger influence on what is made and sold. 31% of the Gen Z population has even downloaded ad blocking software on their computers and devices. Vero’s UVP aligns directly with this way of thinking. In another survey, they found that “85% of Gen Z users will use social media to learn about a product before they purchase it, and 63% of Gen Z members actually prefer the endorsement of social media influencers to traditional celebrities.”

So who else might be looking into using Vero. Of course, any tech savvy user looking for a new platform that might rival Instagram might check out Vero. Instagram’s algorithm changes in 2017 and 2018 caused a wave of users to in a sense boycott the platform. They began to move to Vero and see what the application was all about.

And lets not forget who else might be using Vero. Brands. Even though this platform is technically ad free, the world of influencing is alive and flourishing. The influencer market currently creates nearly $1.6b in revenue yearly and is projected to grow even more. Brands can find popular users on Vero who have a large following and good quality content and reach out to them for “sponsored” posts. Whoever the brand is targeting, likely Gen Z users or any other population they think they might be able to reach through certain Vero influencers, is a target of Vero.

At the end of the day Vero is a company. It exists to make money. The more brands that use the platform, the more exposure, and the more possibilities to create revenue and drive users to subscribe to its platform.
