Social media is now more prevalent than ever in this society. It isn’t necessarily a bad thing either. It has given people a chance to connect around the world, it has given people a chance to express themselves freely and it’s also been a gateway into a career for countless individuals. And as you can tell in this graph, its growth is not projected to slow down.
Vero:
So what is Vero? Vero is yet another social media platform. Vero is a subscription based social media platform. At first, this may strike you as odd, but when you read their manifesto (https://www.vero.co/vero-manifesto) it makes you start to think. If you take a look from beginning to current with many top social media platforms, the new algorithms have started to favor advertisers. They no longer look at their users as customers, but as data to sell to advertisers. Vero, currently sitting at more than 3 million users for its subscription based platform is growing rapidly.
It allows for sharing of more than just pictures and videos too. You can share music, books, places, and even links in this platform. It is an ad-free platform, as I stated above, giving it a competitive edge, and less pushy feel. The feed is updated from new to old as opposed to relevant and trending. It also doesn’t mine it’s users data because its customers are the actual users instead of the advertisers using the platform to find customer data.
So lets take a look at a few of these current platforms that might be doing just that.
Instagram:

Instagram, a company that has repeatedly received backlash about their algorithms is just one example of why Vero is the wave of what works. Algorithm changes in Instagram has created a platform where users feel that they must post their best, and only their best. Content that is highly liked, is more likely to be featured. Content that is sponsored is also more likely to be featured. Candid pictures turn to staged pictures. Life turns to a false reality where imperfection is looked down upon. That’s where Vero changes things. Vero doesn’t have any algorithm that pushes your video to the top. This encourages you to push out the thoughts of only showing your “best life” and just post what you want to express. This positive reinforcement of being yourself is just one of the many advantages that Vero has over some of our current top platforms.
Twitter:

Twitter, yet another platform that might have you thinking second thoughts about how great you are doing in life. This platform has been described as gasoline for the fire that is anxiety. Like Instagram, Twitter causes people to constantly compare their life with what others are doing. Did you see a tweet about someone who’s life just sounds like a dream? Well why isn’t yours that way?
It’s also a social vacuum. You tend to follow either people who are more successful(comparing yourself) or people who are like minded. This leads to your views being validated. Posting about your fears and insecurities? People will probably retweet and agree with you, feeding your thoughts and feelings.
“Many forms of social media can agitate both trait and state anxiety, and perhaps none more so than Twitter, which reminds the perpetually anxious that we always have something to be anxious about and instills a sense of anxiety in even the most laid-back user. Twitter’s constant flow of new information and the fact that users tend to follow people who are more accomplished and successful than they are creates an especially potent cocktail of comparison for anxious people.”
Vero avoids this issue with it’s call for complete expression. With no algorithm, nothing promoting the “top” content, nothing is causing people to try their hardest to be their most perfect self. Everyone is at ease and able to be truly what they feel.
